Research with distinction: many of our research projects are funded by national and international institutions. Below, you will find an overview of the current projects at the Faculty of Philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Religious Studies.
This project analyses Schelling's incomplete system in his late philosophy. It is the goal of the project to explain the systematically incongruous form in the context of a post-Kantian metaphysics. A clear outline of the final system will emerge in a "virtual image" reconstructed by means of philosophical analyses.
The research group concerns itself with theoretical and practical ethical questions in AI and machine learning from an analytical and interdisciplinary point of view.
The project will develop a comprehensive theory of the use of thought experiments in practical philosophy.

At the heart of this project is the epistolary correspondence between the Persian philosophers Avicenna and al-Bīrūnī around the year 1000 CE. In addition to the investigation of the surviving texts, an improved Arabic text will be produced, as well as the first reliable translation into a European language. Finally, a detailed commentary will explain the historical as well as philosophical aspects of the correspondence.

The project is dedicated to the question of the significance of emotions and feelings in the work of Immanuel Kant. For Kant, feelings play an essential role, in so far as they give us orientation in the world. Using this as a starting point, the project attempts to develop a new understanding of Kant's philosophy.
